Out Of Office
Crafting a workspace that embodies our ethos
Context
In 2019, Out Of Office acquired a new workspace, previously a bedding store—a vast, impersonal rectangle, but with great potential. Our ambition was to transform it into a dynamic, human-scale environment that truly reflects our way of working.
To achieve this, we restructured the space into distinct zones with varying heights, using platforms and curtains to create depth and diversity. The aim was to allow every team member to find a workspace that suited their needs, fostering both collaboration and concentration in a Activity-Based Working (ABW) environment.
This transformation was also an opportunity to integrate Met Plaizier, our public café, into the workspace through a visual connection. By opening our offices to the outside world, we encourage interaction, serendipity, and innovation.
Challenge
The challenge was to create a workspace that could support multiple functions while staying true to Out Of Office’s identity:
- A fully modular environment that adapts to different work styles and activities.
- A space that embodies activity-based working, where employees choose their setting based on their tasks.
- A seamless transition between work, community, and events, integrating coworking and corporate gatherings.
- A warm, authentic atmosphere, using a diverse palette of materials, textures, and lighting to create inspiring yet functional spaces.
Solution
To meet these needs, Out Of Office designed a workspace that merges flexibility and identity:
- Zoning through architectural elements, such as platforms and semi-transparent partitions, ensuring fluidity between areas.
- Diverse workspaces, ranging from collaborative areas to quiet zones for deep focus.
- Studio 925, an event space that hosts industry discussions and corporate gatherings.
- A direct visual link with Met Plaizier, reinforcing the connection between work and the community.
- Every material and design choice was carefully selected to balance warmth, creativity, and productivity.
Result
Our transformed office is more than just a workspace—it is a reflection of who we are. The flexible design allows our team to seamlessly transition between different work modes, fostering collaboration, autonomy, and engagement.
The integration of Met Plaizier enhances daily interactions, while Studio 925 positions our space as a key venue for thought leadership and professional events. This project showcases our belief that workplaces should inspire, connect, and evolve—just as we do.
