DKV and ERGO
Rethinking the workplace: A post-COVID work strategy for DKV & ERGO
Context
DKV Belgium, a leader in private health insurance, and ERGO, one of the largest insurance groups in Germany and Europe, faced a significant challenge in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic: How to bring employees back to the office in a meaningful way? With 480 employees at their Brussels offices, the companies sought to redefine their way of working, ensuring that the new approach aligned with their values, culture, and long-term strategy. The goal was to create an engaging, hybrid work model that fosters collaboration, well-being, and productivity.
Challenge
The pandemic reshaped employee expectations, making flexibility, autonomy, and purpose-driven work more important than ever. The challenge was to rethink the office experience, ensuring that employees felt motivated to return to the workplace, while maintaining the benefits of remote work.
DKV and ERGO needed a structured, participative process to:
- Identify the key drivers for employee engagement in the office.
- Align leadership, teams, and workspaces around a unified vision.
- Create a roadmap for a sustainable, future-proof work model.
Solution
Out Of Office facilitated an inclusive, data-driven transformation process, working closely with leadership and employees to develop a tailored approach to hybrid working. Our methodology included:
- Stakeholder engagement & continuous feedback: We involved all teams and departments to ensure alignment and co-creation.
- Mapping existing work patterns: Analysing mental, physical, and virtual work habits to understand barriers and opportunities.
- Defining the future way of working: Setting clear ambitions, principles, and success criteria for the hybrid model.
- Gap analysis & solutions: Identifying gaps between the current and desired state (fears, expectations, tangible solutions).
- Roadmap development: Establishing key phases and milestones to ensure a smooth transition.
Result
DKV and ERGO now have a clear, structured strategy to implement a motivating and human-centric hybrid work model. Employees benefit from a balanced approach, where flexibility meets collaboration and engagement, ensuring that the office remains a space of connection and innovation. This transformation redefines the role of the office, making it not just a place to work, but a place to connect, learn, and grow.
